Basic steps
Step 1: Apply water on the deck/fence surface and see whether the water is getting absorbed. If yes then it needs sealing/applying oil.
Step 2: Clean the surface to remove any paint, oil or dirt, mould or algae.
Step 3: Clean the surface with a deck cleaner to remove stains, and use a powerful hose or high pressure water cleaner to remove any remaining dirt.
Step 4: Apply putty to fill gaps/cracks.
Step 5: Allow the timber to dry for at least 8 hrs. Only apply when the surface is dry.
Step 6: Apply the decking oil/sealant and leave for at least 18 hrs.
